The body straight
The rear straight to the body, from my motion capture, kept clear of a low blow.

The rear straight to the body was my first one-technique teacher, the start of the shadow clones. Its reference is my motion capture, Muay Thai 02, take_02, 29.25–30.70 s, aimed at two heights: the bottom of the abs and the solar plexus. The teacher only had to learn this punch and keep the stance and the balance.
bodycross1 started from guard14 on 24 October. Watching it, I saw the low-abs punch dip below the belt, so it was stopped at 42.5 M. bodycross2 got a line it may not cross, and was stopped again to move the bag. In bodycross3 the bag’s face sits where my reference fist meets it, and it was kept at 95.0 M: 57 of 64, no low blows, no falls.
Then it failed in the student. bodycross3 had been trained on the fast elbows guard14 had, and the student was distilled onto guard18’s original elbows. It missed: 2 of 16, 16–19 cm short at the low abs. I had decided the fast elbows were unrealistic anyway, so the teacher was retrained on the student’s body: bodycross4-118.0M, 23 of 24, no low blows, no falls (work log). The lesson went into the method: a teacher has to be trained on the same body and the same motors as the student it will teach.
bodycross4 went in with distill2 (21 of 24), and the kept student distill4 landed it 20 of 24 (distillation). It has been one of the teachers in every distillation since, and the student distill7-245.8M lands it 23 of 24.
What I think, as a coach
My brief for the first clone: “No need to worry about the rest of the punches. But do make sure that it doesn’t forget the stance and the balance.”
The low-abs punch must never go below the lower abs: “anywhere below that will be considered illegal … you’ll be hitting the crotch.”
And the fast elbows were unrealistic. I would rather retrain the teacher on a normal arm than keep a punch no person could throw.
Every attempt
Every run that trained it on its own, in order.

Shared training
Runs that trained it together with other techniques: a base model, a retrain onto a new stance, a distillation into the student. Their whole cost is counted once, in the shared figure above, not split.
How the models descend
